QUEENSLAND Treasurer and Minister for Employment, Andrew Fraser says the Green Army is about putting Queenslanders to work on cleaner, greener projects.
According to the Minister, he met with ten jobseekers at William Duncan State School near Nerang, who have started work on landscaping and erosion reduction projects.
The Minister says Green Army participants are paid to work on projects which will revitalise and rehabilitate green spaces, boost tourism and increase community environmental awareness.
Fraser says the Nerang project is just one of $57m worth of Queensland's Green Army projects that will create 3,000 jobs for disadvantaged jobseekers over the next three years.
Southport Broadwater parklands will also be upgraded by participants in a project to create a more natural landscape for recreation and cultural events. Twelve months after receiving assistance 71% of participants are in employment or further training.
