Queensland’s Green Army starts work on the green side of the Wyaralong Dam Project

QUEENSLAND Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, Stirling Hinchliffe says some of the first recruits to the State’s Green Army have started work on the $348m Wyaralong Dam Project.

According to the Minister, the Green Army recruits join more than 200 people working on the project and will be engaged in a variety of work including identifying and removing weeds and pests, collecting seeds and maintaining rural infrastructure.

The Minister says the dam is near a major regional habitat corridor running almost 70km from Brisbane to the Border Ranges. Vegetation will be restored on cleared and degraded land near the dam site to enhance existing wildlife corridors.

Hinchliffe says the Green Army is a $57m program to create 3,000 jobs for Queenslanders over three years, on projects that have significant environmental and community benefit.
