VICTORIA'S Energy and Resources Minister, Peter Batchelor says the new outdoor area at Lake Wendouree’s View Point has officially opened, concluding the Lake Blitz project.

According to the Minister, the community-driven Lake Blitz project includes a new rotunda, boardwalk and playground facilities. Other works included outdoor furniture and paths, lighting, shelters and landscaping and signage highlighting environmental and heritage points of interest.

The Minister says the work was carried out using environmentally-friendly design and materials, many new trees were planted and even the boardwalk uses timber recycled from Melbourne’s wharves.

Batchelor says in addition to the State Government’s $470,000 funding, Ballarat City Council contributed $417,000 to stage two, local businesses have made more than $450,000 of in-kind support and the community has raised $14,500.

Stage two of the Lake Blitz project is said to have involved the replacement and improvement of facilities at 11 sites around the lake.
